Intraocular lens more available to the general public...

The FDA has approved multifocal refractive intraocular lens for patients - the cure of presbyopia and a blessing to those patients who suffer from cataracts. These lenses include the ReStor and The ReZoom lenses. Both lenses now compete with Crystalens which is an accommodative lens that allows you to focus near and far.

Medicare also now pays for the use of multifocal and accommodative intraocular lenses on presbyopia patients. These advancements are making exceptional vision (both near and far) possible for a much wider range of patients. In one study, 80% of the patients implanted with accommodative or multifocal intraocular lenses never needed to use glasses or contacts again! That means that many cataract patients now will have a choice to get lenses that allow them to reduce or eliminate their dependence on reading glasses.

These advanced intraocular lenses also work for refractive surgery patients who are over 40. In the past, many such patients had LASIK and soon after had to purchase reading glasses. If they choose to have Advanced IOL implants instead of LASIK, now they may not need readers.
