LASIK Recovery Tips

It is important to take very good care of your eyes during the recovery period. By carefully adhering to your LASIK surgeon's follow-up care instructions, you will place yourself in the greatest likelihood of achieving a successful outcome to your procedure.

Please keep the following tips in mind while your eyes are healing following LASIK:

  • You will need to arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure.
  • Your eyes will be very sensitive to light after surgery. It is important to wear a good pair of sunglasses to protect them from sunlight.
  • You should try and rest your eyes as much as possible for the first 48 hour following surgery. Avoid activities such as reading, sitting at the computer, and watching TV as much as possible since they may strain your eyes.
  • It is crucial that you avoid rubbing or touching your eyes while they heal.
  • You will need to avoid participating in athletic activities for about one month after surgery. Your LASIK surgeon will give you a more specific timetable for when you can resume playing sports as he monitors your recovery.
  • Make sure to keep water and soap out of your eyes while showering.
  • You should be able to return to work in about 2-3 days. Your doctor will advise you about your timetable during your follow-up visit.
