Glasses for Your Computer?
Researchers at the University of California Berkley are
developing algorithms that work with covers placed over computer screens to
adapt to various vision disorders. These vision-correcting displays will give
users who need glasses for computer work temporary freedom from their prescription
eyewear. While current research is focused on conditions that can be addressed
with glasses such as presbyopia and hyperopia, researchers hope to one day soon
create displays that address high order aberrations as well.
This technology may soon become available for home computer
users. In the not too distant future it may become available for tablets and
smart phones as well. This is fantastic news for people who don’t like prescription
eyewear but still want to live in the modern world. However, as fascinating and
helpful as these displays may be, they only serve one very specific use.
If you have tired of prescription eyewear – both glasses and
contact lenses – it may be time to discuss LASIK with your
eye doctor. Unlike displays that address a single issue, LASIK permanently adjusts
that shape of your cornea, allowing for crystal clear vision at all times and
under all circumstances.
To learn if you are a good candidate for LASIK vision
correction, please contact
an experienced eye surgeon in your area to schedule your consultation.
